NANNY stabbed children, 2 and 6, to death in a bathtub as mother Makes Horrific Discovery

A nanny at a luxury New York City apartment stabbed two children to death in a bathtub before trying to kill herself, police said today - and their anguished mother made the grim discovery.

They said the children's mother found them after returning home with another child.
The mother, Marina Krim, arrived home with her 3-year-old daughter Nessie to find Leo, 2, and Lulu, 6, dead in the apartment at a building called La Rochelle on Manhattan's Upper West Side.
See more photos and story after the cut. Just sooooo sad

The father is Kevin Krim, the senior vice president and general manager of CNBC Digital, who had been on a business trip.
Mr Krim was met by police at the airport when he returned to New York and was given an escort to the hospital where his loved ones had gathered.

His wife originally thought her other two children were out with the nanny, 50-year-old Yoselyn Ortega, NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly said.

She went downstairs and asked the doorman at her building whether he'd seen them leave. When he said no, she went back upstairs and discovered the bodies of Leo and Lulu in the bathtub, Kelly said.

Rima Starr, who lives on the second floor near the Krim family, said she heard screams coming from the family's apartment at around 5:30pm.

'There was some kind of screaming about, "You slit her throat!" she said. 'It was horrible.'

It's unclear how many times the children were stabbed.
The nanny was found on the bathroom floor with stab wounds to her neck, and a kitchen knife was close by, police said.

There was no water in the bathtub, they said.

Kelly said it's unclear how long the nanny had worked for the family and the police investigation was ongoing.
Starr, the family's neighbor, said she believed the nanny had been hired just recently.

A neighbor of the family, who said she had just met the nanny for the first time on Wednesday, told the New York Post: 'It's horrifying, it’s a very quiet building.'
She described the woman as 'very quiet,' and just 'stared ahead.'

Mrs Krim called 911. She and an unknown family member were hospitalized, but it is not believed that they were attacked.
She kept a Livejournal account, titled 'Life with the Krim Kids,' which she regularly updated.

The last entry was posted about three hours before the murders.
Neighbours said that they heard the mother's scream when she made the horrific discovery.

Lucianne Minihan, whose husband Michael is the superintendent of the building, told DNAInfo: 'The whole building heard it. She was screaming at the top of her lungs. She was screaming, "Help me! Help me!"'

Police said Ortega is in custody. She's hospitalized in critical condition.

I'm short of words. Just too sad
