Chinese Construction Worker, Eight Civilians, 3 Soldiers Killed in Maiduguri

A Chinese Construction worker was yesterday shot dead as well as three soldiers and ten civilians in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, as members of the Boko Haram Militant sect held the town hostage.

It would be recalled that three Indians and a Ghanian were killed recently as neighbouring Borno town of Gubio witnessed the slaughtering of three Chinese construction workers.

It was gathered that the Chinese expatriate was shot and killed in the morning by unknown gunmen believed to be suspected sect members at his construction site and was immediately rushed to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).

This immediately sparked off confusion in the town, as other Chinese co-workers had to take to their heels for fear of being killed.

Two other persons were also found dead on the street at the Lagos street axis where the Chinese was killed.

Another set of eight civilians including a pharmacist, automobile Technician and some traders were killed by suspected Islamic sect members in other parts of the town.

Three soldiers were killed when the Islamic terror sect and soldiers had a confrontation at a military checkpoint. A pickup van belonging to one of the security services was seen burnt beyond recognition at Makera with heavy smoke easing out of Budum.

The actual number of casualty could not be ascertained as at the time of filling this report, as many areas were cordoned off and the streets deserted.

The Military has refuse to speak on the killings as the Spokesman of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa lines were switch off.
